Role summary

We partner with product, technology, and operations teams to define and deliver acquiring and payments capabilities that improve merchant experiences and business outcomes. This role focuses on translating business needs into clear requirements and actionable insights, with strong emphasis on merchant hierarchy, onboarding/servicing workflows, and transaction lifecycle impacts.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead discovery with stakeholders to understand acquiring and payments needs across the merchant lifecycle (boarding, underwriting support inputs, activation, processing, funding, chargebacks, reporting, and servicing).
  • Elicit, analyze, and document requirements (epics, features, user stories, acceptance criteria) with traceability from business objectives through delivery and testing.
  • Map current-state and future-state processes, including merchant hierarchy structures (e.g., enterprise/chain, parent–child relationships, location/store, MID/TID/terminal relationships where applicable).
  • Partner with product owners to refine and prioritize backlog, define MVP scope, and support roadmap execution.
  • Collaborate with technology teams to ensure solutions align with target architecture, data models, and integration patterns across payments/acquiring platforms.
  • Define data and reporting needs related to merchant setup, hierarchy rollups, pricing/fee reporting, transaction performance, and operational KPIs.
  • Support UAT planning and execution: develop test scenarios, validate outcomes, triage defects, and confirm readiness for release.
  • Identify risks, dependencies, and upstream/downstream impacts (merchant configuration, hierarchy rollups, settlement/funding, reporting, and reconciliation).
  • Drive alignment across cross-functional groups and communicate status, decisions, and requirements changes with clarity.

Required skills and experience

  • Acquiring domain expertise (merchant onboarding/boarding concepts, merchant configuration, settlement/funding concepts, and operational workflows).
  • Payments experience across transaction lifecycle concepts (authorizations, clearing, settlement; chargebacks and adjustments concepts).
  • Strong knowledge of merchant hierarchy constructs and rollups (parent/child relationships, multi-location merchants, hierarchy-driven reporting and servicing).
  • Advanced requirements and process skills: user stories, acceptance criteria, BPMN/process mapping, gap analysis.
  • Ability to translate complex stakeholder needs into clear, testable requirements.
  • Strong data analysis skills (ability to define metrics, interpret trends, and articulate insights).
  • Excellent facilitation and communication skills; comfortable working with senior stakeholders.

Preferred qualifications

  • Familiarity with risk, compliance, and operational considerations in merchant acquiring.
  • Experience with Agile delivery (Scrum/Kanban), backlog grooming, and release planning.
  • Tools: Jira/Confluence, Visio, SQL (basic to intermediate.

Success measures

  • Requirements are complete, unambiguous, and accepted with minimal rework.
  • Delivery teams can implement and test efficiently due to strong acceptance criteria and traceability.
  • Stakeholders confirm solutions meet acquiring/payment needs and correctly support merchant hierarchy rollups.
  • Improved operational outcomes (reduced setup errors, fewer hierarchy-related reporting issues, faster issue resolution).

Working relationships

  • Partners closely with Product Management, Engineering, QA, Implementation, Operations, and Client Support to deliver end-to-end merchant acquiring capabilities.
