POSITION SUMMARY:
The Associate Merchant plays a key role in supporting the Director of Merchandising across all aspects of product selection, analysis of key performance indicators (KPIs) for both catalog and online platforms, and the execution of site merchandising strategies. This position is responsible for managing one or more product categories, mentoring Assistant Merchandisers and Merchandising Coordinators, and utilizing experience with market vendors to assist with market appointments in the accessory category.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborate with the Director of Merchandising to develop strategies, product assortments, plans, and pricing for assigned categories, based on analysis of historical data, market trends, and competitive insights.
- Engage daily with cross-functional teams, including Creative, E-Commerce, Planning, Global Sourcing, Domestic Vendors, and Technical Design, to align merchandising objectives and enhance collaboration.
- Conduct thorough competitive research by analyzing catalogs and retail competition to identify key items and trends, providing product development recommendations to the Director of Merchandising.
- Assist in the analysis of KPIs to identify opportunities and mitigate risks, while managing the overall profit and loss (P&L) for assigned categories.
- Implement site merchandising strategies, focusing on category creation and the execution of merchandising tactics on the website.
- Provide mentorship to Assistant Merchandisers and Merchandising Interns, fostering their professional development.
- Support the Director of Merchandising with various responsibilities related to the merchandising team as required.
- Lead the assortment of merchandise in accordance with launch plans and promotional strategies.
- Analyze current and historical sales data to propose adjustments aimed at maximizing sales performance.
- Adhere to all deadlines in the merchandising book-building process; proactively address issues and challenges, suggesting improvements in a timely manner.
- Ensure accuracy in all merchandising documentation and processes, allowing sufficient time for stakeholders to implement necessary changes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in fashion merchandising or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in merchandising.
- E-commerce experience (catalog and/or web) is preferred.
- Familiarity with working with market vendors to facilitate market appointments in the accessory category.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to multitask effectively.
- Excellent communication and follow-up skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
