Description

Apple is seeking an exceptional senior lawyer to serve as the first line of legal coverage in Japan — a high-impact country counsel role. This position represents Legal as a member of the Apple Japan site leadership, serving as a trusted advisor to the business and legal colleagues around the world. This is a rare opportunity for a seasoned lawyer who thrives at the forefront of complex legal and regulatory environments.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Apple Japan’s senior legal leader and an active member of the Apple Japan site leadership team.
• Anticipate and navigate emerging legal, regulatory and market developments, translating complexity into clear, commercially sound guidance for local and global stakeholders.
• Collaborate with legal teams worldwide to assess legal risk and develop effective risk mitigation strategies.
• Partner closely with cross-functional teams across multiple lines of business to align legal strategies with business objectives.
• Manage and coordinate external counsel to obtain specialist advice, critically evaluating and challenging that advice to achieve strategic objectives.
• Champion and uphold Apple’s high ethical standards, corporate governance, and compliance culture in all aspects of the business.
  
  

Minimum Qualifications

• Qualified lawyer admitted to the Japanese bar.
• 12+ years of strong legal and regulatory experience advising multinational corporations at a leading law firm and/or in-house.
• A confident leader with a proven track record of building trusted relationships with senior stakeholders.
• Deeply fluent in Japan's regulatory landscape, with the instinct to identify issues early and the judgment to act decisively.
• Exceptionally bilingual — articulate and persuasive in both English and Japanese, with the ability to distil complex legal matters for diverse, non-legal audiences.
• A collaborative, intellectually curious self-starter who is energized by complexity and operates with composure in a fast-paced, global environment.
• Exemplary ethical standards and strong commitment to corporate governance and compliance.
