Summary

Apple is looking for a senior engineer to enhance, operate, and maintain the Perforce and GitLab version-control platforms that Apple's Silicon Engineering Group relies on to design the world's most advanced silicon. In this highly visible role you will be the EMEIA Direct Responsible Individual (DRI) for both services, the single regional point of accountability , working hand in hand with the US-based global service owners and acting as trusted technical advisor to design customers across Europe and the Middle East. You'll use your experience with Perforce, GitLab, and adjacent DevOps tooling to ensure hardware and

software engineers have access to modern, performant tooling and workflows. You should be comfortable in a fast-paced, collaborative, DevOps-minded environment, self-motivated, hands-on, and energised by being the regional owner of a service.

Description

Your primary focus is the regional health, performance, and customer experience of Perforce and GitLab, operating as a fully integrated member of the global, US-headquartered service teams. A typical week blends deep engineering with customer engagement: leading a Perforce edge server upgrade with the US owners, sizing a GitLab runner pool for a design team's CI burst, troubleshooting a replication issue, and sitting with a design lead to architect a new project workflow. Outside the two focus services, you will provide auxiliary support for adjacent DevOps tooling (artifact management, container registries, CI/CD, build infrastructure) and, where your background and interests allow, contribute to the broader

SRE work of the CSG team.

Responsibilities

  • Act as EMEIA DRI for Perforce and GitLab: regional service health, customer escalations, change execution, and the regional voice into the global service roadmap.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of both platforms: install, configure, upgrade, patch, performance-tune, capacity-plan, back up, restore, and decommission.
  • Partner with silicon design teams to translate workflow requirements into reliable, scalable infrastructure and performant CI/CD patterns.
  • Collaborate closely with US-based service owners on architecture, change windows, on-call hand-offs, runbooks, and roadmap. Some US west-coast time-zone overlap is expected.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation scoped to Perforce and GitLab.
  • Secondary Responsibilities: Provide auxiliary support for adjacent revision-control and DevOps tooling, including artifact management (e.g. Artifactory), container registries, CI/CD, build infrastructure, and secrets management.
  • Flexibility to contribute to broader CSG SRE work: Linux compute, NFS/NAS storage, monitoring, and configuration management.
  • Help cross-train EMEIA SREs on first-line coverage for the focus services, building runbooks, paved paths, and training material.
  • Drive automation and toil reduction across the focus services, including failover and auto-remediation where practical.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years supporting version-control infrastructure or general revision-control engineering at a senior administrator level.
  • Strong SRE, DevOps, and Linux system-administration foundation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient with Perforce Helix Core.
  • Experience with other version-control systems: Git / GitLab / SVN.
  • Experience with artifact and package-management tooling: Artifactory / Nexus / GitLab.
  • Proficient in one or more general-purpose programming or scripting languages: Python, Go, Ruby , Java, or JavaScript.
  • Proficient on Linux platforms, with strong knowledge of configuration management.
  • Analytical, with strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Kubernetes experience (e.g. cluster lifecycle, upgrades, control plane, CNI/CSI, ingress, RBAC, observability, Helm/Operators). On-prem/bare-metal a plus.
  • Experience mentoring and building runbooks, paved paths, or training material to scale first-line coverage.
