Summary
At Apple, new ideas have a way of becoming phenomenal products, services, and

customer experiences. Imagine what you could do here. Bring passion and

dedication to your job and there's no telling what you could accomplish.

We are a Mechanical Engineering team developing advanced consumer devices

that define the state of the art in hardware design. Our work spans the full product

development cycle — from early-stage mechanical design and systems integration

through prototyping, validation, and transition to production. We collaborate

closely with Product Design, Electrical Engineering, and System Engineering to

deliver hardware of the highest standard, where precision, reliability, and user

experience are equally paramount.

This is a student position for a driven, technically grounded individual seeking

meaningful engineering experience in a world-class hardware development

environment. The role offers direct involvement in R&D lab activities, hands-on

prototype builds, and hardware design work — alongside seasoned engineers

across multiple disciplines. The ideal candidate brings a solid foundation in

engineering, sharp problem-solving instincts, and the initiative to take ownership

of assigned work from the outset.

Description
As part of this role you will collaborate with the Mechanical Engineering and

Systems Integration teams, with a primary focus on the design and realization of

lab R&D setups, jigs, fixtures, and mechanical prototypes throughout the product

Development Cycle. Responsibilities Include
Design and fabricate jigs, fixtures, and custom test rigs for R&D, prototyping,

and assembly workflows

Build and assemble mechanical prototypes and lab setups to specification,

with rigorous attention to fit, alignment, and tolerance

Support mechanical integration of PCBs, optical sensors, and other hardware components into assemblies and experimental setups

Contribute to the design of mechanical components and assemblies, with emphasis on functionality, durability, and manufacturability

Participate in design reviews and contribute structured feedback from prototype builds and lab evaluations

Support lab operations, including inventory management, equipment

maintenance, and test data logging

Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical
  • Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related discipline
  • Practical experience with 3D printing technologies (FDM, SLA)
  • Strong organizational skills with a methodical approach to lab operations and
  • task management
  • Comfortable and effective in a hands-on lab or workshop environment
  • Self-directed, reliable, and a strong team collaborator

Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (NX preferred)
  • Familiarity with various manufacturing processes — injection molding, sheet
  • metal, CNC machining
  • Experience designing and building end-to-end experimental hardware setups
  • Exposure to embedded electronics platforms (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, ESP32,
  • or equivalent)
  • Prior experience in a prototyping, lab, or workshop setting — academic,
  • research, or industry
  • Experience producing engineering drawings or technical documentation to
  • professional standards
