The role of the Backend Javascript Engineer at Lex is to conceptualize, implement and maintain Lex backend services.
The Role
We’re looking for a Senior Backend JS Engineer with experience building consumer apps across the stack to join our team. As a senior member of the engineering team you'll collaborate directly with the Head of Product, Product Designer, Engineering Lead, CTO, and other teammates to understand, build, and test new product features from conception to roll out. Every week you'll ship new experiences to hundreds of thousands of users and see the impact directly.

Who You Are
You are a backend software engineer with at least 6 years and ideally more than 8 years of work experience. You have at least 2 years of experience in JavaScript/TypeScript and NodeJS.
You’re an energetic, positive-thinker and comfortable adapting to change in a seed-stage startup environment. You push the team to meet company objectives.
You’ll work closely with Head of Product, CTO, Engineering Lead, and the engineering team to make high-level architecture designs.
You’re respectful, kind, and open to teammates ideas. You’re comfortable with change and want to do what is best for the team, product and company.
You enjoy leading a small team towards building engaging, impactful consumer apps. You know how to execute complex projects.
You’re highly capable of resolving complex issues in creative and effective ways and conduct in-depth evaluation of situations/data and present new solutions
You’re familiar with current business and technology trends
What You'll Do
You’ll collaborate with Product and Engineering teams on establishing technical feasibility & specification of new features and participate in Agile development workflow.
You’ll help estimate new features and plan the roadmap towards meeting company goals and OKRs.
You’ll strategize towards finding the best balance between shipping new features and addressing the tech debt.
You’ll use good software development practices and tools to write high quality, secure & tested code and make a visible impact on the product for all the users of Lex.
You’ll participate in weekly software deployments and support the mobile team in client releases.
You’ll take responsibility over the whole web app lifecycle: from development to deployments and monitoring. Propose and implement best practices for code testing and quality assurance.
You’ll devise improvements to the Lex backend architecture and services and spearhead new initiatives towards enhancing the developer experience and productivity.
You are comfortable with suggesting improvements to the Lex Engineering Team workflow & toolset.
You’ll share your knowledge with other engineers by mentoring, pair programming and other learning opportunities. You’ll also participate in interviewing and hiring of new engineers.

You should be comfortable with change, able to pivot quickly and creatively problem solve.
This will be a 100% remote role, based in the US. Must work in either EST, CST, PST timezones. Lex is based in NYC with teammates in Seattle, LA, and NYC. We communicate on Slack and Zoom.

Tech Stack:
You have experience with the whole lifecycle of software development: requirements analysis & technical specification, development, testing & debugging, deployment, monitoring & maintenance. Knowledge of good software development practices & tools.

Bonus:
You have experience working on consumer technology products.
You have experienced in scaling products, from seed stage to beyond
NYC preferred but not required. Lex is based in NYC – the team works remotely in LA and Seattle as well.
