We are seeking a senior staff accountant who will be responsible for assisting with ongoing monthly close, quarterly balance sheet reconciliations, annual financial audit, tax and other related compliance reporting and examinations, as well as managing special projects to up-level and streamline the accounting function. This individual is comfortable working both independently and as part of a team and can thrive in a remote work environment. We are seeking someone with solid experience in accounting who is highly motivated and driven for continuous improvement.

What You'll Do:

  • Assist with ongoing monthly close:
  • Book month-end journal entries related to the financial close.
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations and prepare supporting schedules including identification and resolution of any variances and/ or reconciling items.
  • Reconcile monthly receivables.
  • Maintain fixed asset and lease schedules and book corresponding monthly journal entries.
  • Perform monthly Balance Sheet flux analysis, identifying key drivers of large fluctuations.
  • Work alongside cardholders to review and code corporate purchasing card activity on monthly basis to the general ledger.
  • Review and post employee expense reports monthly.
  • Perform quarterly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Assist in preparation of monthly management reports and accompanying schedules.
  • Assist with annual external audit:
  • Assist in managing the communication and timeline with external auditors.
  • Preparation of PBC audit request items including preparation and review of corresponding support schedules and work-papers.
  • Comprehensive and timely review of auditor selections.
  • Assist with various compliance reporting requirements including state sales & use tax matters and annual bank examinations.
  • Identify areas for process improvement with the goal of considerably condensing the current close timeline, eliminating manual processes which are prone to human error, increase work-paper transparency and reviewability, and improve internal controls.
  • Develop new, and augment existing, documentation of accounting procedures including assisting in developing informal accounting policy memos.
  • Work on special projects on an ongoing and ad-hoc basis.

What You'll Bring

  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and accounting skills.
  • Experience with major accounting software packages for general ledger accounting (NetSuite preferred but not required).
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with MS Excel including manipulating large datasets through pivot tables and other advanced conditional functions.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, time management, and organization skills.
  • Strong judgement and ability to set and achieve deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a remote work environment.
  • Capability of tackling recurring workflows with strong level of ownership, minimal up-front guidance, and proactive follow-through.
  • Willingness and desire to be challenged and take on new tasks with increasing levels of difficulty.
  • Highly detail oriented with an organized approach to workpaper layout, documentation, and ongoing maintenance.

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Accounting or equivalent from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of three to five years of experience in the accounting industry, with Big 4 accounting experience preferred.
  • CPA, or working towards CPA.
